PODCASTS

I love podcasts almost as much as I love books. Efficient, convenient, portable, and intimate, podcasts deliver content much more directly than perhaps a book can. More importantly, there are all different kinds of podcasts, covering every topic imaginable, from news, to arts, comedy, politics, sports, business, music, mental health, spirituality, philosophy, history, science…you name it, there’s probably a podcast for it.

I typically lean towards podcasts where I can learn something new; podcasts with intelligent and informative conversations, interviewing scientists, historians, researchers and experts in the field, though occasionally I do love a good book review podcast or comedy.

See below for a few of my favorites — these have truly broadened my perspective on life and are chock full of some incredibly valuable & fascinating info!

MAKING SENSE // Sam Harris

If I had to pick a favorite podcast, this would be it. Sam Harris is a neuroscientist, author and philosopher, and explores a range topics regarding the human mind, behavior and current events.

10% HAPPIER // Dan Harris

Dan Harris started this mindfulness & meditation podcast after having a panic attack on live television (yes, you read that right!)

THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE // Joe Rogan

Arguably the most popular podcast on the internet, this is a long form conversation hosted by comedian Joe Rogan with friends and guests that have included comedians, actors, scientists, musicians, MMA fighters, authors, artists, and beyond.

SECOND LIFE // Hillary Kerr

A wonderful podcast interviewing female enterepreneurs and businesswomen, from Reese Witherspoon to Anine Bing. LOVE this one.

HIDDEN BRAIN // NPR

Dan Harris started this mindfulness & meditation podcast after having a panic attack on live television (yes, you read that right!)

ENDING HUMAN TRAFFICKING // Dr. Sandie Morgan

This is a cause I’m particularly passionate about, and this is a incredible podcast hosted by two doctors discussing any and all issues surrounding this problem in our country and around the world. Enlightening, harrowing, informative and oh so important to understand.

SMARTY PANTS // American Scholar

Tune in every week to catch interviews with the liveliest voices from literature, the arts, sciences, history, and public affairs; reports on cutting-edge works in progress; long-form narratives; and compelling excerpts from new books.

ALL SONGS CONSIDERED // NPR

The week’s best new music discoveries, including conversations with emerging artists, icons and more. Hear songs that can completely change your day, with humor, heart and (sometimes) a whole lot of noise.

THE PROBLEM WITH EVERYTHING

Heads up, this is gonna be a looooooong post. But I am feeling REALLY passionate about this. I first discovered Meghan Daum’s The Problem With Everything from a Sam Harris podcast episode, titled “Sex & Power” (linked here if you’d like to listen!) To my pleasant surprise, I really connected with Daum in this interview.Continue reading “THE PROBLEM WITH EVERYTHING”
